Flight1 volunteers recently attended Down Syndrome Indiana’s 7th annual Fly-In and Open House. Montgomery Aviation hosted the event at Indianapolis Executive Airport. Almost a thousand guests enjoyed helicopter rides, bouncy houses, skydivers and even a candy drop from a plane. Music, displays of aircraft and classic cars, and booths featuring service providers rounded out the festivities.
“We love working with organizations like Down Syndrome Indiana,” said Flight1 founder Marcus Strawhorn. “We had an information table at the fly-in and signed up several potential Courageous Fliers. We also gave out lots of foam plate gliders with Flight1 stickers on them. The kids loved flying them!” (Have some fun learning how to make your own FPG-9 glider here.)
Executive Director Lisa Wells of Down Syndrome Indiana added, “The Fly-In is a great community day that increases awareness about Down syndrome and resources available to families that have a loved one with Down syndrome. I am thrilled that Flight1 was able to be a part of it. It was such a great fit and what Flight1 does for the families we serve is awesome!”
Montgomery Aviation makes a point of giving back to the community through its sponsorship of events like the fly-in. “All the proceeds go to Down Syndrome Indiana,” said owner Andi Montgomery, “and we’re proud of our work with local organizations.”
