Flight1’s second annual Community Day is Saturday, September 6th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM (rain or shine) at the Ohio Street Canal Basin in downtown Indianapolis. The event is our way of saying thanks to the community for their outstanding support of Flight1’s mission. But this year, the day of relaxing family fun has a special twist: we’re turning the canal gold to raise awareness of the fight against childhood cancer!
Flight1 is partnering with other local charities and corporate sponsors to make this year’s event extra special. “We may have different ways of helping kids,” says Flight1 founder Marcus Strawhorn, “but we also have a common goal – the illnesses that strike children when they should be focused on what it is to be a kid. Our GoldSplash Community Day is a chance for people to come out and have a lot of fun while supporting some great causes.”
Those causes include the remarkable work of organizations like Team Joey, Tantum’s Bags of Fun, Nathan’s Playroom, the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana, and Flight1 as well as support from the Indianapolis Arts Center and Nine13Sports. Flight1 and its partners thank sponsors Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Jet Linx, Covance and Southside Pediatrics for their generosity in helping to make GoldSplash Community Day possible.
Activities will include coloring the canal gold at noon, music, a magic show, crafts, a fire truck photo op, radio-controlled plane simulator kid games, balloon release and more. Admission is free and details are online at goldsplash.org.
