Cancer. Not just any cancer, pediatric cancer. This is what we found out through what we thought was a regular trip to the doctor for my 5 year old nephew (at the time). A child with cancer?! Up until that point I never knew anyone with cancer, but especially not a child!!?? My family and I were very shocked, surprised, but mostly scared with what was to come. The cancer was stage 4 Wilm’s Tumor. Flashing forward 7 years later, my nephew is now in remission and doing wonderful, but trust me when I say we were petrified for his life and the effects chemo/radiation leads to. Devin is a very proud advocate of spreading awareness, that alone makes me want to move mountains with getting the word out. He is very brave and overcame a fierce tumor. Today I spend my days if not working and spending time with family or in between using my personal Facebook connecting with friends and other childhood cancer families posting info about pediatric cancer, as well as our 2nd annual event Gold Splash – coloring the Indianapolis Canal GOLD for childhood cancer awareness. Our hope is one day we would love to see GOLD everywhere in September like you see pink in October.
